Erin’s Approach
“Flow and be well.”
Acupuncture is just one part of a Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment. There are other tools and modalities that may be used during a treatment in addition to, or in place of acupuncture needles. These include cupping, gua sha, moxa, herbal medicine, shonishin, tui na, electric stimulation, and dietary therapy. See below for more details on these modalities. Erin provides individualized treatment based on the patient's needs.
Treatments
-
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the primary treatment approach of Traditional Chinese Medicine, a theory of medicine that understands the body as a set of connected channels and organ systems. Unobstructed flow through these interdependent parts is essential for recovering from injury or illness, resolving pain, and maintaining health.
Acupuncturists tap into points along the body's channels to regulate their flow, using hair-fine needles or other specialized tools. Our techniques can influence nerve conduction, blood and lymph circulation, biochemical or hormonal signaling, and the electrical signals of fascia networks (webs of connective tissue that tie the whole body together).
-
Herbal Medicine
Heal with the power of plants! Chinese Herbal Medicine can be used for a range of conditions. Herbs are prescribed in combination as formulas, rather than single herbs. Traditionally, herbs were decocted, or cooked with water that patients drink, like a broth. Now formulas are also available as pills, liquid extracts, and dissolvable powder.
Formulas are designed for your unique set of symptoms and underlying pattern. They can be individualized to account for potential interactions with medication or pre-existing conditions.
Additional Treatment Options
-
Electric Stimulation
With or without needles, a gentle electric impulse can be applied to acupuncture points, to alter nerve conductivity or muscle function, and interrupt pain signaling.
-
Cupping
Cupping uses the reverse pressure of suction to open up layers of muscle fiber and fascia in order to improve circulation, alleviate tension, or help the body process toxins.
-
Shonishin
Shonishin is an acupressure technique using special tools as an alternative to needles, especially for children and needle-sensitive patients.
-
Nutritional Guidance
Individualized dietary and lifestyle prescriptions can be given to help patients achieve their health goals. Moderation is key in Chinese Medicine.
Additional costs apply. -
Gua Sha
Gua Sha is a method of stroking over the skin with a tool to promote circulation, release stored tension and help the body process toxins.
-
Moxibustion
Moxibustion, or moxa is a form of heat therapy, using a specific plant, artemesia, to stimulate thermoreceptors and chemoreceptors at acupuncture points.
